- If I am an incoming freshman, how do I sign up for a Meal Plan?
Incoming freshman and transfer students at Rose Hill will receive a meal plan sign-up form in the mail, which includes information on all the various meal plan options and prices. Once this form is completed, mail it back to Hospitality Services. If you decide that the meal plan you have selected does not fit with your schedule you may change it during the first two weeks of each semester. Changes can be made at the Information Desk in the McGinley Student Center at the Rose Hill campus.
The process for students at Lincoln Center, is different from the one at Rose Hill. At Lincoln Center, students are automatically signed up for $800 declining balance dollars. Additional declining balance dollars can be added to your card at the Information Desk in the Lowenstein Café at Lincoln Center.
- Am I required to participate in a Fordham Meal Plan?
All students living in the following residences are required to participate in a meal plan: Alumni Courts North and South, Hughes Hall, Queen’s Court, Tierney, Martyr’s Court, Finlay, and O’Hare Hall on the Rose Hill campus. Freshman Lincoln Center students that reside on-campus automatically are enrolled in a declining balance meal plan.
- What if I am a commuter?
If you will be commuting to one of the campuses, you have a great amount of flexibility. All meal plan options available to resident students are also available to commuting students. In addition, you can choose a block plan entitling you to a combination of meals in the Marketplace and Declining Balance Dollars. View the Block Plans: Rose Hill | Lincoln Center
Or, you may choose to have only a Declining Balance account. Finally, you can use cash or credit card at any dining location.

- Which Meal Plan should I get?
The most popular plan is the Platinum Plan at Rose Hill, which includes $200 in declining balance. However, it is important to consider your personal eating habits: how often do you eat, are you an athlete, how accommodating is your schedule? - Do I need a special Meal Plan Card?
Nope! Flex Dollars are all accessed entirely through your Fordham ID Card, so you only need to worry about one card.
- As a returning student, when do I sign up for next year’s meal plan?
For returning Rose Hill students, meal plan selection information is included with the housing information in the spring. At Lincoln Center a student must come to the hospitality services office to sign up for a meal plan for the following year.
- What are “flex” dollars?
Flex dollars are the more common name for Declining Balance Dollars. The term comes from the “flexibility” one has to make purchases at the various dining venues with this account. This account is similar to a debit account, where one begins with a certain amount of money and deducts purchases from the balance.
- What is the difference between "meal access" and "declining balance?”
"Meal Access" allow you to enter the Marketplace at Rose Hill, which provides an "all-you-can-eat" dining option according to service hours. "Declining Balance" can be used at the dining halls or at any of the retail facilities.

- Where can I use my declining balance dollars?
You can use your declining balance “flex” dollars at any of the Fordham University retail locations and resident dining halls described below.
Rose Hill Campus:
Marketplace (Resident Dining Hall): Cooking meets theater at Rose Hill as we are introducing a completely interactive way of dining. Fresh ingredients cooked to our guests specifications, directly in front of them, allowing them to watch as their meals are expertly prepared with passion and innovation. Enjoy all-you-care-to-eat at the Marketplace.
The Ramskeller: Fun dining offering today’s hottest food trends, grilled sandwich sensations, fresh and healthy “Good to Go” salads, Sandellas flat bread pizzas, wraps and quesadillas, and an organic market.
Dagger John’s: The University Restaurant, providing full table service and a traditional atmosphere.
The Annex:The new organic sustainable and Fair-Trade restaurant location on campus.
The Student Deli: One of the most popular spots on campus for NY style sandwiches and Starbuck’s Coffee.
Millennium Grille: Open seven days a week, for early morning coffee, late night burgers and Freshens smoothies!
Jazzman’s: Featuring traditional Cappuccino, Seattle’s Best Coffee and fresh baked goods.
Lincoln Center Campus:
The Lowenstein Café: Dine on great food in the Atrium overlooking the plaza.
Law School Coffee House: A popular gathering spot for great coffee and more.

- My student will be taking a class at a campus where they do not live; can they use their meal plan on that campus?
You can use any meal plan or Declining Balance dollars at any of Fordham’s campuses without restriction. RH students can also use their meals at the Marketplace in addition to DCB.
- My student has special dietary requirements are you able to provide them meals to meet their dietary needs?
Yes, our dedicated staff is happy to accommodate students with special dietary needs. We provide nutrition facts on the signs at each station with prepared foods and post possible allergen alerts where applicable. If you have special dietary needs, our on-campus Registered Dietician, Maya Laroia, will be happy to meet with you and discuss any special arrangements needed and let you know which items on our menu meet your needs.
Maya can be reached by any Fordham student, regardless of which campus they attend, at laroia@fordham.edu, or by phone at (718) 817-4515. Her office hours for Rose Hill are every Wednesday from 2-6pm in the Health Center and every other Tuesday from 2-6pm at Lincoln Center. In addition, menus are available that accommodate to Kosher, Vegetarian, and Vegan diets. Please visit the “Nutrition” section of the website for further information.
- Does Fordham Hospitality provide balanced meal options?
Fordham Hospitality Services offers a wide variety of options no matter how you like to eat. From salads, fresh fruits and vegetables to pizza and desserts, our menus are based on nutritional soundness and student feedback. While our menus are diverse, it is up to our customers to choose wisely. We promote fresh and nutritious meal selections and use healthy cooking methods, like steaming and grilling, whenever possible.
Nutritional information is available in all our dining locations and on the menus page on our website to help you make informed decisions about your food choices. Balance, Mind, Body and Soul is a program that promotes healthy living. Tips and guidelines for low-carbohydrate, vegan and vegetarian eating are included on this site, as well as tips about health of body and soul through exercise, activities and relaxation.
- What if I don’t use all the flex dollars or meal accesses?
Flex dollars roll over from the first semester fall term to the second semester spring term. However, after the spring term, remaining flex dollars expire. Meal accesses on the Traditional 10 and 7 plans are on a per-week basis; unused accesses expire on Thursday of each week. The new week begins on Friday.
- Can I bring guests to dine with me at the all-you-can-eat venue (the Marketplace at Rose Hill)?
Yes! You can either use one of your weekly meals if you participate in the Traditional 10 or Traditional 7 meal plans. Or, if you participate in a Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze or Carte Blanche plan you are entitled to 12 guest meal passes per semester. These passes are available right on your meal card. Simply ask the cashier to use a guest meal when you enter the Marketplace. In short, all you have to do is swipe your guest so you can both enjoy an all-you-can-eat meal together!
- What should I do if I run out of declining balance dollars before the semester ends?
If you run out of your “flex” dollars before the end of the semester, you may deposit additional funds to your “flex” account by Cash, Check or Credit Card. For further information, call (718) 817-4515, or email FordhamFood@fordham.edu or stop by dining services to add declining balance dollars to your account.
- Are there any discounts or perks that I benefit from by having a meal plan?
Yes, if you participate in a voluntary declining balance plan! We will enhance your declining balance dollars, regardless of the amount, with an additional cash value of 5%. The plan also entitles you to be exempt from the normal 8.625% sales tax at Rose Hill and Lincoln Center on all retail prices. We will also deduct an additional 20% on the “all-you-care-to-eat” price whenever you dine at the Marketplace.
